What Is the Compass Associate Portal (CAP)?
CAP — also called ESS (Employee Self-Service) — is Compass Group’s internal HR portal for all US hourly associates and salaried employees. It connects paystubs, schedules, tax forms, benefits, and personal profile management under one login.

How to Log In to the Compass Associate Portal
Standard login takes under 60 seconds. Here is the exact sequence including what your username actually looks like.
Open a browser and navigate to:
This redirects to https://sso.compassmanager.com/login — this is normal and expected. Do not be concerned by the URL change.
👤 Format 1 — Personnel Number
Most hourly associates. Your employee ID number. Found on paystub, onboarding paperwork, or from your manager.
📧 Format 2 — Compass Network ID
Some salaried employees. Your employee number followed by @compassassociate.com.
Enter username, then click Continue.
Type your password and click Login.

- PeopleHub — personal info, tax withholding, emergency contacts, direct deposit
- Benefits — health, dental, vision, 401(k) details
- My Schedule — upcoming shifts and schedule changes

How to Register for CAP (New Employee Checklist)
Before you start, gather these 5 items. You cannot complete registration without all of them.

✅ Option 1 — Personnel Number (Recommended)
Select United States, enter Personnel Number, leave Clocking ID blank, click Next. Use this if you have a paystub or your manager gave you an employee number.
⚠ Option 2 — Clocking ID (MySTAFF Only)
Use ONLY if you clock in/out using MySTAFF or Compass Time clock terminals. If you don’t know what a Clocking ID is, use Option 1.
- Birth month — enter number only (e.g., 3 for March, 11 for November)
- Last 4 digits of SSN
- First letter of last name (capital or lowercase accepted)
The system may show an email already on file — confirm it is correct or enter your personal email. Phone number is optional but speeds up account recovery.
Check inbox for a welcome email from Compass Group. Click “Complete Account Setup”. Then:
- Create a secure password (minimum 8 characters, mix letters and numbers)
- Set up 3 security questions — choose answers you’ll actually remember
- Click Continue to finalize
Go to ess.compassassociate.com and log in with Personnel Number + your new password.
How to View and Download Paystubs
The most-used feature in CAP. Most direct deposits appear in the portal before the money hits your bank account.
Log in at ess.compassassociate.com. Click the Pay or Paystubs tile on the dashboard. On mobile (ESS Mobility), tap More → Paystubs from the bottom menu.
A list of pay periods appears sorted by most recent first. Click the date range you need. Compass Group pays bi-weekly (every two weeks) for most hourly associates.
Click View Paystub. The stub opens as a PDF. Use your browser’s download button or File → Save As to save to your device or cloud storage.

How to Download Your W-2 from CAP
W-2 forms are available in CAP by January 31 each year. You do not need to wait for the paper copy in the mail.
Log in at ess.compassassociate.com. From the dashboard, click the PeopleHub tile. If you see “Employee Central” instead, that is the same thing.
Inside PeopleHub click Pay → Tax Forms → W-2. A list of available tax years appears. Select the year you need (e.g., 2025 for your 2025 tax return).
Click the year to open the PDF. Download and save immediately. Use it to file your federal and state income taxes or give it directly to your tax preparer.
PeopleHub → Actions → Federal & State Withholding Taxes. Update your W-4 to increase or reduce the amount withheld. Changes apply from today — backdating is not allowed.
Managing Your Profile, Benefits & Direct Deposit
Outdated contact info is the number one reason employees miss payroll notifications, benefit confirmations, and reset emails.
- Home address (for W-2 mailing and all HR communications)
- Personal phone number (primary only — one per profile)
- Personal email address (primary only — company email cannot be changed by you)
- Preferred name (legal name change requires HR documentation)
Add names, relationships, phone numbers, and email addresses. Multiple contacts are supported. This is used by HR and site management if an on-site incident occurs.
PeopleHub → Pay → Direct Deposit. Add a new bank account, change your primary account, or split deposits across multiple accounts. Only you or HR can make this change — managers cannot.
- Current health insurance plan and coverage details
- Dental and vision enrollment status
- 401(k) contribution rate (linked to plan provider)
- Life insurance and other elected benefits
Fast Password Reset When You’re Locked Out
Three reset paths depending on your situation. Use the correct one to avoid wasting time.
🔑 Path A
Know security question answer → click Forgot Password, answer question, follow email link.
📧 Path B
Access to registered email → click Login Assistance, select email reset, check inbox.
📞 Path C
Forgot both → use Reset Account link OR call HR Helpdesk: 1-877-311-4747.
At ess.compassassociate.com, look for “Forgot Password?” or “Login Assistance” below the login button. Both paths lead to the same reset process.
Active employees: enter Personnel Number and click Next.
Separated employees (left Compass): enter personal email address or click “Recover your Login ID”.
Answer exactly as typed during registration — capitalization matters. If you cannot remember:
- Click “Reset Account” instead (different link on the same page)
- Call 1-877-311-4747 and HR can manually reset it
Open the reset email link. Create a new password. Then wait 2–3 minutes before logging in — the system syncs changes across CAP, ESS Mobility, and OMS and this takes a moment.
Real Problems Employees Hit — And Exact Fixes
These are the most common issues, sorted by frequency. Check here before calling HR.
- Check Caps Lock — passwords are case-sensitive
- Clear saved/autofill passwords and retype manually from scratch
- Confirm you’re using Personnel Number, not your personal email
- Try the Compass Network ID format: 12345678@compassassociate.com
- Try a different browser (Chrome is most compatible)
🏢 On-Site HR (Fastest)
Visit your HR office in person with your Personnel Number. Most sites can unlock same-day or within the hour.

- Check spam, junk, and promotions folders immediately
- Wait up to 10 minutes — some providers delay delivery
- Confirm the email registered on your CAP account is still accessible (HR can tell you what email is on file)
- Add noreply@compassassociate.com to contacts and request a new reset
Still nothing after 15 minutes? Call 1-877-311-4747 — HR can update your email on file and manually trigger a reset.
- Switch to Desktop View in your phone browser menu (tap the three-dot menu → Desktop site)
- Use Wi-Fi instead of mobile data — some carrier networks block the portal
- Update your browser to the latest version
- Clear browser cache and cookies, then reload
- Try Chrome on Android or Safari on iPhone for best compatibility
- Wrong Personnel Number (off by one digit)
- Birth month entered as text (“March”) instead of number (“3”)
- Last 4 SSN or last name initial doesn’t match what HR recorded at hire
- Very new hire (wait 48–72 hours for HR records to fully process before registering)
Contact on-site HR to verify all details in your file, then try registration again.
- Paystubs appear on payday — they don’t always appear early
- W-2s are available by January 31 for the prior tax year
- If you have OMS access, paystubs may be in OMS instead of CAP — check with your manager
- Try refreshing or clearing cache — occasional display bugs are browser-related

Security Tips Most Employees Skip
CAP holds your pay data, partial SSN, and bank routing information. Protect it like your bank app.

The questions HR and the helpdesk receive most — answered clearly and completely.
Your username is your Personnel Number (employee ID) — for example 123456. Some employees with a Compass Network ID use the email format: 90000009@compassassociate.com. If unsure, ask your on-site HR manager.
Yes. Separated (former) employees can still access W-2 forms and paystubs. On the Login Assistance page, select “Separated Employee” and use your personal email address to recover access. If you have trouble, call 1-877-311-4747. Always use a personal email during registration — not a work email — for exactly this reason.
W-2s for the prior tax year are available by January 31. If your W-2 has an error — wrong name, wrong SSN, or incorrect earnings — contact HR immediately at 1-877-311-4747 with your Personnel Number and the specific discrepancy. Do not file taxes with an incorrect W-2. A corrected W-2C will be issued.
Yes. The ESS Mobility portal at ess.compassassociate.com works on any smartphone browser. A native app is also available — search “Compass Associate” in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Use the same Personnel Number and password as the web portal.

Managers can complete most self-service tasks on an associate’s behalf — except direct deposit changes, which must be done by the employee or HR. Biographical information and national ID are viewable only by you and HR. Some payment information is also restricted to employee + HR access only.
